If you're about to pay for a website, an MVP, or a redesign, the hardest part isn't the technology — it's figuring out whether the price you're quoted is fair. This guide explains, in plain language, what web products actually cost and why.

You run a business or you're starting one. You need a website, a web app, or a rebuild of something that no longer works — and you've discovered that asking "how much will this cost?" gets you anything from a €300 template offer to a €40,000 agency proposal for what sounds like the same thing.

Why web pricing is so opaque

There are structural reasons you can't get a straight number out of most of this industry:

Hourly billing is a black box. "€80/hour" tells you nothing until you know how many hours — and you won't know that until the invoice arrives. The person estimating has every incentive to estimate low and bill high. Scope creep isn't a bug in hourly billing; it's the business model.

Agency quotes carry the whole building. When an agency prices your website, you're paying for the account manager, the project manager, the sales team that won you, and the office they sit in. Often only a fraction of the fee reaches the people actually designing and building. The work can be great — but you should know what you're paying for.

Scope is rarely written down. Most disputes I've seen in 10+ years of this work come down to one thing: the client and the builder had different pictures in their heads, and nobody wrote the picture down. Vague scope is how an €8,000 project becomes a €20,000 project.

Comparison is nearly impossible. One quote includes copywriting, SEO structure and a CMS; another is just "design + code". They look €5,000 apart but they're different products.

How I price — so you can calibrate

I work differently, and this guide reflects that bias openly:

  • Fixed price, fixed scope. After a free 20-minute call, you get a written quote: what's included, what it costs, when it ships. The number doesn't move unless the scope does — and scope changes are agreed in writing before any work happens.
  • One senior person — who can scale when it's warranted. You talk to the person who designs and builds your product: no layers, no telephone game, no overhead baked into the price. And when a project genuinely needs more hands or niche expertise, I bring in independent specialists I already collaborate with — you still have one person accountable from start to finish.
  • Published ranges. Most business websites I build start from €5,000. MVPs start from €5,000 and ship in 2–4 weeks. Larger apps are scoped in phases so you never commit to a big number blind.
  • Priced as senior, not cheapest. These are one-expert, senior-level prices — deliberately above the offshore and freelance-marketplace floor. I don't compete on being the cheapest; I compete on getting it right the first time, so you don't pay twice.
  • You own everything. Code, domain, content, accounts — from day one.

The full spectrum — and when it legitimately costs much more

One honest caveat before you read the rest: those ranges (from €5,000 for a site, from €5,000 for an MVP) are for the common cases — a business website and a focused first product. They are not the ceiling.

Real product work — a marketplace with multiple user roles, anything handling money or regulated data at scale, real-time systems, genuinely novel logic — routinely and legitimately runs into five and six figures. Not because someone is padding the invoice, but because that work genuinely needs a team and months. Pretending everything fits under €20,000 would be its own kind of dishonesty.

The trick isn't finding the cheapest tier — it's landing on the tier your idea actually needs, and then spending at the bottom of that range instead of the top.
